Kanha Ji Dress

300+ designs for your Kanha Ji — from everyday cotton to heavy festive poshak, starting at ₹99.

All Sizes 0 to 6 Free Delivery Above ₹999 Starting ₹99 Direct from Mathura Karigars

If you keep a Kanha Ji at home, you already know the small daily ritual — waking Him, bathing Him, and choosing what He will wear that day. Finding dresses that actually fit well, hold their colour after a few washes, and don't come apart at the seams is harder than it should be. That is the gap we set out to fill when we started Amfez in 2014.

Everything on this page is a Kanha Ji dress — the same garment you may know as Laddu Gopal poshak or Bal Gopal dress, depending on where in India you grew up. We work directly with karigars in Mathura and Agra, which is why a well-stitched dress here starts at ₹99 instead of triple that in a city shop.

Getting the Size Right

This is where most first-time buyers go wrong. Kanha Ji dress sizes are based on idol height measured from the base to the top of the head — not on the width or the weight of the idol. Measure once with a tape before ordering and you will not have to return anything.

One practical tip: if your idol falls between two sizes, go one size up. A slightly loose dress drapes properly over the arms and can be adjusted with the tie strings. A tight one will not sit right no matter what you do, and the seams give way faster.

Colour for Each Day

Many devotees dress Kanha Ji in a different colour each day of the week. There is no single rule followed everywhere, but this is the sequence most families in North India keep to:

🎨 Traditional Weekly Colours
Day Colour
MondayWhite or silver
TuesdayRed or orange
WednesdayGreen
ThursdayYellow — Pitambar, Krishna's favourite
FridayWhite or cream
SaturdayBlue or black
SundayRed or pink

If you follow this properly you need seven dresses in rotation. Our combo packs are built for exactly that — a full week's set costs noticeably less than buying seven dresses one at a time.

Choosing the Right Fabric

What works for daily shringar vs. what to save for festivals

🌿

Cotton & Cotton-Silk — Daily Wear

Soft, breathable and quick to change during morning pooja. Handles frequent washing without losing shape. This is what you want for the six ordinary days of the week. Typically ₹99 to ₹299.

Silk, Velvet & Brocade — Festivals

Heavier fabrics with zari borders, stone work or kundan detailing. Save these for Janmashtami, Diwali, Holi and Annakut. They photograph beautifully and last for years with careful storage. Typically ₹399 to ₹2,500.

🧶

Woolen — Winter Months

In many households Kanha Ji is dressed warmly through December and January, the same as any child in the family. Soft woolen poshak in darker shades suits the season.

💧

Caring for the Poshak

Never machine wash — particularly anything with stone or zari work. Hand wash cold with mild detergent, do not wring, dry flat in shade. Velvet only needs dusting and storage in a cloth bag. Done properly, a good dress lasts two to three festival seasons.

What Comes With a Kanha Ji Dress?

A standard set includes the main poshak — the upper and lower garment — along with a pagdi or mukut-style headpiece. Beyond that it varies by product, and we list the exact contents on every product page so there are no surprises when the parcel arrives.

Premium sets often add a small bansuri, a mala, or matching shringar pieces. If you want the complete look — mukut, bansuri, mala, kundal and bajuband all colour-matched — browse our Shringar collection, where accessories are grouped into coordinated sets.

Shopping for a specific occasion? Our Radha Krishna jodi sets pair matching poshak for both idols, and the Laddu Gopal poshak range carries the same designs listed under their more traditional name.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no difference. Kanha Ji and Laddu Gopal are both names for the child form of Lord Krishna — Kanha Ji is more common in North India, Laddu Gopal is used more widely. The same dress fits both, so shop either collection by your idol size and you will get the right garment.

Measure your idol from the base to the top of the head in inches. Size 0 fits up to 4 inches, Size 1 fits 5–6 inches, Size 2 fits 7–8 inches, Size 3 fits 9–10 inches, Size 4 fits 11–13 inches, and Sizes 5–6 cover 14–24 inches. If your idol falls between two sizes, choose the larger one — it drapes better.
Prices start at ₹99 for simple cotton daily wear and go up to ₹2,699 for heavy designer poshak with zari and stone work. Most customers buy in the ₹199 to ₹699 range. Delivery is free on orders above ₹999, anywhere in India.
Cotton and cotton-silk blends. They are soft, breathable and easy to change during daily pooja, and they hold up to frequent washing. Keep silk, velvet and brocade for festivals — heavy fabrics are not practical for everyday use.
Never machine wash, especially anything with zari or stone work. Hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent, do not wring it out, and dry flat in the shade. Velvet poshak should only be dusted and stored in a clean cloth bag between uses.
